Pressure Equipment

For pressure equipment and installations that must be approved in accordance with the European Pressure Equipment Directive, 2014/68/EU (PED), technical documentation must be prepared, which – depending on the classification of the equipment – must be reviewed by a notified body and CE marked if the equipment falls within Category I to IV.

Calculation of pressure vessels according to EN 13445 in connection with CE marking in accordance with the PED / Pressure Equipment Directive.

The technical documentation includes, among other things:

  • Strength calculations
  • Technical drawings
  • Welding documentation
  • Mill certificates
  • Test reports
  • Risk assessment
  • User manual
  • Declaration of conformity

Maticon Engineering has many years of experience in preparing technical documentation for pressure equipment – either partially or as a complete solution.

We maintain close contact with several notified bodies and can therefore handle communication with the authorities on your behalf.

Experts in Advanced Strength Calculations

We are highly specialized in structural calculations for pressure equipment. We perform strength calculations for vessels, piping systems, boilers, heat exchangers, cooling systems, valves, fittings, and more.

The calculations are primarily carried out in accordance with harmonized European standards, including:

  • DS/EN 13445 (Unfired pressure vessels)
  • DS/EN 13480 (Metallic industrial piping)
  • DS/EN 12952 (Water-tube boilers)
  • DS/EN 12953 (Shell boilers)
  • DS/EN 13941 (District heating)
  • DS/EN 10253 (Pipe fittings)
  • DS/EN 14276 (Refrigerating systems)
Execution of piping stress calculation in accordance with EN 13480, with focus on pressure, temperature, and thermal effects.

Calculations in accordance with non-harmonized codes and standards such as AD-Merkblatt, ASME BPVC, and others can be performed upon agreement.

Finite element calculation and analysis (FEM / FEA) in accordance with EN 13445 of external forces and moments on nozzles in the cylinder.

We use advanced software programs to calculate pressure vessels and heat exchangers, as well as to perform stress and flexibility analyses of piping systems.

For nozzles and pipe connections, we also utilize software to calculate the stress these loads impose on cylinders, end caps, etc.

For pressure-retaining components not covered by existing standards, we often use spreadsheets or perform finite element analysis (FEM/FEA) for more complex structures.

In connection with finite element calculations, we generally apply the principles found in DS/EN 13445-3, Annex B or Annex C, with regard to “Design by Analysis”.

All our software is updated to reflect current standards to ensure that the calculated equipment meets the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive.

Classification of Pressure Equipment

For the classification of pressure equipment in accordance with the PED, 2014/68/EU, we have developed a free online tool for determining the category and module, “PED Category & Module”, which can be found in the top right corner of our website.
